Bakersfield Blitz Open af2 Season Tomorrow

AKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz are set to open the 2007 af2 season tomorrow, March, 29, in Laredo, TX. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. The Blitz will be taking on one of nine af2 expansion teams, the Laredo Lobos, in tomorrow's game.

"We're excited to get things going and see what we've got," said Blitz Head Coach Gary Compton (East Texas State University, '90).

The Blitz have been selected 8th in the preseason Top 16 poll as selected by the af2 head coaches.

The Bakersfield Blitz are coming off their best season in franchise history in 2006. Finishing with a record of 9-7, the Blitz lead the league in total defense by allowing only 87 touchdowns and just over 220 yards per game. The defense also finished 2nd in the league with 26 interceptions (Alex Wallace, 11). To top it all off, the Blitz won the first playoff game in team history by defeating the Central Valley Coyotes, 45-37, and came within seconds of beating the eventual ArenaCup Champions, the Spokane Shock.

After Thursday's game, the Blitz will not play again until April 14 when they travel to take on the Tri-Cities Fever at 7:00 p.m. The 2007 home opener for the Bakersfield Blitz will be on April 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena (1001 Truxtun Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93301) against the Stockton Lightning.
