Bakersfield announced as 22nd ABA expansion team

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-Founder, today announced the 22nd expansion team in the fast-growing professional basketball league - Bakersfield, California. According to Newman, "Bakersfield fits beautifully into our divisional plans - and we are fortunate to have found an ownership group with outstanding marketing credentials to go along with excellent basketball savvy. This will be a good operation."
The Bakersfield group will be comprised of local business entepreneurs involved in the petroleum business, environmental remediation, real estate, retail manufacturing and marketing. One of the co-owners is David Higdon, Managing Partner of DBS Management Group, Inc., owners and operators of Western Hardhat International, Inc. (Named Safety Invention of the Year in 1998); LaFemme North America (recognized as one of the Top 100 inventions by the US Patent and Trademark Office, QVC and Popular Mechanics Magazine); AIM Indoor Advertising (indoor advertising in high traffic venues); Stampede Records (independent record label). DBS Management Group also handles marketing and merchandising opportunities for Jay Robinson Racing which competes in the NASCAR Busch Series with sponsorship from Advil and Yahoo!
Higdon commented, "We've been following closely the growth of this amazing league; there's never been anything quite like it. Being entepreneurs and basketball fans ourselves, we decided to get in on the ground floor because we believe the future of the ABA is incredible." He added, "We have a lot to do between now and the November 15th start date including staffing, GM, coach, tryouts, venue, marketing, merchandising and a myriad of other things. But my partners and I are up to it - and we should move forward quickly. We're used to deadlines."
