Bakersfield Blitz News Release
(Bakersfield, CA) - The Bakersfield Blitz announced today that they have been assigned rookie wide receiver/linebacker LaCorey Collins.
Collins (6-4, 235, Oregon) comes to the Blitz as a free agent. He spent time in training camp with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League.
"LaCorey is a big physical receiver," said Head Coach James Fuller. "He has the size, but he also has the speed and hands to go along with his height. I think he will be a key addition to go along with the receiving corps we have right now. LaCorey has a lot of raw talent and I am anxious to get him on the field."
Prior to joining the Blitz, Collins spent five seasons with the Oregon Ducks appearing in 43 contests and hauling in 52 receptions for 738 yards and ten touchdowns at the tight end position.
Injuries hampered Collins through his first two seasons but he rehabbed and became a major threat in the Ducks air attack.
During his senior year at Oregon, Collins grabbed 14 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns in eleven games. His junior year he was the Ducks' fifth-leading receiver tying him for top honors in touchdown receptions. Collins also remained as the squad's runner-up in yards per catch. He caught at least one pass in 10 of 12 appearances his junior year, including a stretch of seven straight contests midway through his junior year.
Collins prepped at Skyline High School in Oakland, CA, earning Parade All-America recognition. He was also selected as the Gatorade Player of the Year in California and to the Best in the West list by the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Collins captured All State, All-City and All-Bay Area honors, including citation as the No. 1 prospect in the East Bay region and its defensive player of the year. The Western 100 honoree hauled down 51 passes for 817 yards and eight touchdowns and added 121 tackles along with 2 quarterback sacks in addition to an interception return to win the league championship. Collins finished his career with 105 catches and 16 touchdowns, 213 tackles, 25 sacks and five interceptions.
