Hillsboro Hops News Release

It must be a catcher thing. For the second time this season, a Hops catcher delivered the walk off base hit. This time it was first year pro Tyler Baker in the bottom of the tenth. Baker launched a ball to the right field fence that scored George Roberts from second to beat the visiting Everett AquaSox 4-3.

The Hops drew first blood in the home frame of the first inning as Grant Heyman singled to right field scoring Pedro Ruiz from third. After the AquaSox put up one in the top of the second, the Hops took a two run lead when they posted a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The runs scored on a throwing error from the Everett pitcher on a Jordan Parr sac bunt attempt, and the on Yorman Garcia's double to left. It was Garcia's first run batted of the year. The Hops (11-6) looked to have had it under control in regulation until the AquaSox scored one in the sixth and one in the eighth to tie the game at three apiece.

As the game went into the bottom of the tenth the Hops meat of the lineup was due up as Heyman, Roberts and Baker came to the plate. After Heyman struck out on three pitches, Roberts doubled to left field, Baker came up to the plate, and the rest is history.

Starter Ryan Doran threw six innings of two run ball as he gave up seven hits, walked none, and struck out five. The win gives the Hops a 5-1 record against Everett in the 2014 campaign.
