Back-to-Back Cat Jacks and Hiscock Power the RailCats to 9-3 Win

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Gary South Shore RailCats used the strong start from Stephen Hiscock and homeruns from Ryan Brockett and Drew Muren to win for the second night in a row at Sioux Falls Wednesday night 9-3. Hiscock tossed his seventh quality start in a 102 pitch performance holding the Canaries to three runs on eight hits.

Tuesday night the Canaries hit back to back homeruns something the RailCats had not had happen to them this season. The RailCats had also not hit back to back homeruns on the season until Wednesday night. The RailCats took their turn going deep back to back in the top of the second off of lefty Matt Wickswat. Wally Backman led off with a walk off of Wickswat then with two outs Ryan Brockett worked a full count and hit a ball down to left field line that stayed fair for a two run homerun to make it 2-0 RailCats. Drew Muren stepped up next and launched a solo shot to right and the Cats had gone back to back for a 3-0 lead.

The Canaries got a solo shot of their own in the bottom of the second when Chris Duffy led off with a homerun to make it 3-1 South Shore. The RailCats would pick up another run in the top of the third when Drew Martinez led off with a triple and came home on an ground ball to second by Zac Mitchell to make 4-1.

The South Shore would add another three with some help from Sioux Falls. Josh Romanski led off the fourth with a single and was followed by Ryan Brockett who also singled. Both Brockett and Romanski would have three hit nights for Gary. Danny Pulfer then drove home Romanski with a single to right. The throw went towards third to attempt to get Brockett with Pulfer trying to make second behind the throw. Canaries third baseman Carlos Mendez threw to second to attempt to get Pulfer but his throw went into right center half way to the wall allowing both Brockett and Pulfer to score and it was 7-1.

The RailCats added another run in the seventh when Josh Romanski took reliever Eric Gonzalez deep to right for his fifth homerun of the season to make the score 8-1. Sioux Falls got two back in the bottom half of the inning but the RailCats got another in the eighth with two outs on a wild pitch with Ryan Babineau at third to close out the scoring at 9-3.

Wickswat (2-2) was charged with the loss while Hiscock (4-4) notched the win the even his record at four. The two teams will wrap up the series and the seven game road trip Thursday night at 7:05pm with RHP Stephen Bougher (3-2)(3.38) taking his turn for the RailCats against Canaries starter RHP Kyle Ruwe (3-4)(6.29). The game can be heard on WEFM and online at RAILCATSBASEBALL.COM. The RailCats return home Friday night at 7:10 pm against St. Paul for a three game weekend series.
