Staten Island Yankees News Release
The Staten Island Yankees capitalized on an opportunity to gain ground in the McNamara division after Brooklyn fell to Hudson Valley 2-1. After scoring only one run in last night's game, the Yankees offense blasted 14 runs in a 14-4 route of the Aberdeen IronBirds.
The Bombers jumped to an early lead as the team sent every batter to the plate in the first inning. Justin Snyder reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning and advanced to third after a delayed steal and a walk by Damon Sublett. Snyder then scored the first run of the game after Jose Gil grounded into a force out. After the Yankees worked the bases loaded, Chris Raber came to the plate with two outs. The designated hitter came up with a clutch single that scored Gil and DJ Hollingsworth. Another single in the next at bat forced Aberdeen's starting pitcher Josh Tamba out of the game as the Yanks built up a 4-0 lead.
The IronBirds managed to put two runs on the board in the fourth inning as Joe Mahoney homered to right field after Anthony Martinez reached on a double to center field.
The Baby Bombers came up with another big inning as the team batted around in the fourth inning to break open the ballgame. Austin Krum started the inning off with a home run over the wall in right-center field. After Brian Chavez singled to left field and Snyder was walked, Taylor Holiday ripped a ground-rule double to left field, scoring both runners. Four more singles by the Yankees gave the team three additional runs and a 10-2 lead.
Staten Island added four more runs to their already hefty lead by scoring once in the sixth inning and tallying three runs in the seventh. Chris Raber had a career night as he led the dangerous Yankee offense with six RBIs on four base hits.
Zach McAllister was the beneficiary of the Yankees offense as he earned his fourth win of the season. The right-hander kept the IronBirds at bay as he allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out five batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
Adam Olbrychowski takes the mound for the Yankees as the team begins a two-game set against the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00pm. Season ticket, group and single game ticket information is available on the web at www.siyanks.com, by calling 718-720-9265 or visiting the Richmond County Bank Ballpark box office between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.
