B-Sens Sign Defenseman Jared Cowen

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators announced today that defenseman Jared Cowen has been signed to an amateur try-out contract.

Cowen, 20, was the Senators' first-round pick (ninth overall) in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. A native of Saskatoon, Sask. he recently concluded his fourth full season with the Spokane Chiefs, who were defeated four games to two by the Portland Winterhawks in a WHL Western Conference Final playoff series that ended May 2.

Cowen appeared in 58 games with the Chiefs this season posting career highs in goals (18), assists (30), points (48) and penalty minutes (91). In 239 career WHL games, Cowen has recorded 37 goals, 108 assists and 274 penalty minutes. He also has four goals and 17 assists in 51 playoff contests.

The 6-5, 215-pound defenseman earned a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which was held in Saskatchewan. He appeared in six games for Canada, recording one assist and two penalty minutes while concluding the tournament with a plus-4 rating.

The B-Sens will face the Portland Pirates in Game 6 of the Atlantic Division Finals tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
