GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators cruised to their second straight victory, their first back-to-back wins in over month, defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 5-2 at the Glens Falls Civic Center tonight. With the win the B-Sens remain undefeated against the Phantoms so far this season.
Rob Klinkhammer registered four points, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist. His linemate Corey Locke notched a goal and a pair of assists.
Binghamton opened the scoring at 7:39 of the first period as Locke scored his second of the season off a feed from Klinkhammer.
Pat Cannone stretched Binghamton's lead to two at 15:06 of the period, capitalizing on an Adirondack turnover to score his eighth of the season on the ensuing breakaway.
The Phantoms pulled within one as Jason Akeson beat Mike McKenna through traffic with a power play goal at 15:04 of the second. The goal would stand as the only one in the period.
A pair of goals from Klinkhammer scored just 1:52 apart midway through the third would give the B-Sens a 4-1 cushion. Klinkhammer scored his first of three in the period at 9:58 after picking up Locke's outlet pass at the blueline before moving in on Michael Leighton and wristing one home. Mark Borowiecki drew the secondary assist on the goal, his third in two games. Klinkhammer scored again at 11:50, courtesy of Mark Parrish. Stephane Da Costa would also assist on the goal.
The Phantoms narrowed the scoring gap to two goals as they netted their second power play goal of the game in the final two minutes of regulation. Ben Holmstrom received credit for the tally, assisted by Akeson and Blake Kessel. The assist was Kessel's second of the game after he drew the lone assist on Akeson's second period goal.
Klinkhammer completed the hat trick, scoring on an empty net with just 13.9 seconds remaining in regulation.
McKenna made a season-high sixth straight start in goal, stopping 31 of 33 shots to improve to 7-9-0 on the season. Leighton stopped 25 of 29 shots for the Phantoms as he fell to 11-11-0.
