
Aztex Ride Tyrpak's Goal, Defense to 1-0 Win

Scottsdale, Arizona - The Austin Aztex scored an early goal and held on with a strong defensive performance to defeat Arizona United SC 1-0 Saturday evening at Scottsdale Stadium.
With the win, the Aztex (7-9-3) split the season-long series with Arizona United SC (7-10-1) at two wins apiece and jump to eighth place in the USL Western Conference standings. With the two wins in eight days, the Aztex rode a six point swing to eighth place in the USL Western Conference standings and are only three points out of the coveted sixth place position that automatically receives a playoff berth.
Kris Tyrpak scored in the fifth minute of the match to give the Aztex an early advantage. Max Gunderson received the ball on the right side of the field and sent in a cross to Tyrpak. The forward rose above Arizona defender Damian Rosales and headed the ball to the right past goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski.
The Aztex would continue to possess the ball and add to the lead. However, it was Arizona who would create the chances in the half, forcing Aztex goalkeeper Devin Perales into action. In the 16^th minute, Arizona forward Jordan Rideout got a header on goal off of a pass from Scott Morrison. Perales was able able to reach up and snag the ball out of the air for the save. In the 29^th minute, Perales has to make a quick adjustment and dive for a shot that deflected off of an Arizona player.
Aztex head coach Paul Dalglish was forced to use a substitute in the first half when Leone Cruz entered the game for Fernando Timbo, who left due to injury. The team remained focused and maintained a 13-to-10 shot advantage over Arizona.
