Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Aztex (3-3-1) came back from an early deficit before conceding an equalizer as they battled to a 2-2 tie versus OKC Energy FC (2-1-2) Friday night at House Park.

OKC forward Danni Konig started the game with an unassisted goal at the 16^th minute. Aztex forward Drew Yates drew the game even minutes later when he scored his first goal of the season and then doubled his tally at the 28^th minute from a throw-in. The Aztex battled hard, but were unable to maintain the lead when OKC forward and second half substitute Kyle Greig tied the game at the 87^th minute.

With the Aztex and Energy FC in the middle of the pack of the USL's Western Conference, both teams looked to take command early in the game to secure the three points needed to move up the standings. Both teams pressed early looking to force turnovers and mistakes, resulting in three goals in the opening 30 minutes.

Konig was able to pounce on a bad pass from Aztex forward Kris Tyrpak and raced down the length of the field, sliding the ball past Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi for the opening goal. Tyrpak would make up for the mistake when he found Drew Yates in the middle of the field and hit him with a precise pass to create a scoring opportunity. Yates made a heads up play and noticed that OKC goalkeeper Evan Newton was off of his line, and Yates made Newton pay with a long chip to nod the game even.

Yates would score his second goal of the game from a long throw-in deep in the OKC area from Kyle Hoffer. Newton tried to get a grasp on the ball, but it slipped past his fingertips and Yates was able to head the ball in the open goal.

Energy FC were able to add to the pressure in the second half in their search for the equalizer. The Aztex appeared to have the game in hand, but second half substitute Kyle Greig was able to control a cross, take a turn, and slam the ball past Laurendi in the 87^th minute to nod the game even.

The Aztex return to House Park for Military Appreciation Night versus the All-Air Force Team on Wednesday, May 6 before they resume USL action versus the Real Monarchs on Saturday, May 9. Both games will be held at House Park and tickets can be purchased online at www.austinaztex.com (http://www.austinaztex.com/).
