Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (Wednesday, April 29, 2015) - The Austin Aztex (3-3-0) will look to build off the momentum from last weekend as they aim to pursue their second consecutive home victory. The Aztex are set to take on Oklahoma Energy FC (2-1-1) for the first time this season this Friday night at House Park. The action will kick off at 8:00 p.m. CT.
The Aztex are returning to House Park following a 1-0 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to start their three game homestand. This was the second shutout over Colorado Springs, and third overall for the Aztex just six games into the young season. Through these first six games, Austin has allowed only six total goals and found the back of the net six times. The Aztex have not conceded a goal in any their three victories.
Oklahoma City will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season as they fell to Saint Louis FC 2-1 last Saturday night at home. Danni Konig , a tall Danish striker, leads the Energy FC attack with three goals in four games.
Aztex fans will have the opportunity to see some familiar faces on the opposing side. Midfielder Chuy Sanchez, who played for the Aztex in 2012 as the 10 role during the team's playoff push in Paul Dalglish's system, has scored two goals for Oklahoma City this season. Energy FC defender Gareth Evans, who played for Austin Aztex FC in 2009, will also make his return to Austin. Texas native and former Austin area high school St. Stephens Academy star Mikey Lopez is on loan from MLS franchise Sporting Kansas City and will suit up for Energy FC against the Aztex.
The Aztex will hope to have a defensive performance equally strong to last weekend's stellar effort. Head Coach Paul Dalglish will have to make a tough decision when selecting a starting goalkeeper for Friday night. He could go with Cody Laurendi, who is coming off a five - save shutout of Colorado Springs and was named to the USL Team of the Week . Devin Perales is also a great option as he has produced two shutouts in four games in the goal.
Midfielder and team captain Lance Rozeboom has played an essential role in setting the tone for the Aztex early in matches, connecting the defense to the attack. Forward Kris Tyrpak will lead Austin's attack as he put Saturday's deciding goal through the back of the net to bring his tally on the season to three, tying Sainey Touray for the team lead.
With the Aztex looking to build some momentum and Oklahoma City hoping to bounce back on the road, this week's match promises to bring both teams out in full force. Following Friday night's match up, the Aztex will take on All-Air Force at House Park on Wednesday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the team's Military Appreciation Night. Live updates for both matches will also be available on Twitter via @Aztex_Matchcast.
