Aztex Add USMNT U-20 Forward to Roster

AUSTIN, Texas (Tuesday, March 10, 2015) - The Austin Aztex have added star forward and Texas native Alfred Koroma Shams to the 2015 roster. Shams is a player with a young and successful career that includes caps with the U.S. U-20 and U-17 National Teams, play in the 2011 U-17 World Cup, and experience with Fluminense FC, one of Brazil's most prestigious clubs.
Shams, a 20-year-old forward born in Sierra Leone, provides a versatile and dynamic style of soccer to the Aztex front. Shams has impressed at different levels since his youth. During the 2011 U-17 World Cup, where he found the back of the net twice in four games, once in a 3-0 win against Czech Republic and another once 2-1 loss to Uzbekistan. In top of that, Shams started three games and appeared in five during the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, scoring two goals. He then spent time with Solar Chelsea SC of the US Soccer Developmental Academy.
Due to his stellar play on the field, Shams trained with the decorated Brazilian club Fluminense FC in 2014. His time in Brazil helped him refine his technique and become a better player overall in order for him to compete head to head with his Brazilian teammates. He spent most of the time with the U-23's, who last year traveled to Orlando, Florida to face several MLS teams in the Walt Disney PRO Classic. He started his collegiate career at the University of Akron before transferring to Southern Methodist University, where he played in 17 matches and tallied four goals.
This agreement gets the current 2015 USL roster to 19 players.
The Austin Aztex kick off their inaugural 2015 season in USL with a home match versus the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on March 28 at House Park.
