Axmen Complete Three-Game Series Sweep over River Riders

The Kingsport Axmen won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 9-0 on the road after Sunday's 6-1 win over Elizabethton in seven innings. Kingsport (14-3) scored in the top of the first inning on a Shea McGahan RBI single that scored Ian Riley. Riley went 4-for-4 with three singles,

The Kingsport Axmen won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 9-0 on the road after Sunday's 6-1 win over Elizabethton in seven innings.

Kingsport (14-3) scored in the top of the first inning on a Shea McGahan RBI single that scored Ian Riley. Riley went 4-for-4 with three singles, one double, a stolen base, and three runs scored.

No runs were scored in the second inning.

The Axmen scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead, but Elizabethton (8-9) scored one in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to two.

No runs were scored in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kingsport piled on three more insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning on a Darien Farley two-run home run and Sam Petersen RBI single that scored Riley.

The Axmen had a brilliant pitching performance from right-hander Cole Hales. Hales (2-0, 0.61 ERA) got the win and threw six innings, allowing one run, five hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Kingsport has the day off Monday and will host Bristol at Hunter Wright Stadium on Tuesday night.
