Aviators Soar over Missions

LAS VEGAS - The Missions set several season high marks in the wrong categories Monday night as Las Vegas cruised to a 17-7 blowout in the series finale at Las Vegas Ballpark.

The run total marked the most allowed in a game by San Antonio since a 19-7 loss at Midland on April 29, 2016. They also surrendered a season high in hits (19) and homeruns allowed (6). The latter mark was the most longballs given up by a Missions pitching staff since the 2006 season.

The Aviators wasted no time in getting the offense started by scoring eight times in the first inning while clubbing three homeruns. It was the biggest inning allowed by the Missions this season.

Starter Aaron Wilkerson (5-1) recorded only two outs in the opening frame and was charged with the first six runs. Wilkerson entered play having surrendered only three runs across 44 2/3 innings over his eight starts. His 0.40 ERA was the minors lowest among pitchers who had recorded at least 40 innings of work.

Cory Spangenberg and Jake Hager homered for San Antonio. Hager's homer came in front of numerous friends and family members. He attended Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas. Hager also added a single and a two-run triple to his night.

The Missions have a scheduled off day on Tuesday before opening a seven game homestand against Tacoma and Reno beginning Wednesday night.
