Edmonton Aviators News Release
Edmonton, July 4, 2004 â The Edmonton Aviators Men picked up their second win of the season tonight as they came from behind to beat the Whitecaps 3-2 in Vancouver in front of 3,837 fans.
The first place Whitecaps pleased their home crowd early as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. David Xausa and Alfredo Valente (24th minute) scored for the home team while Jason Jordan picked up two assists.
But the Edmonton Aviators, fresh off their first win of the season, refused to concede defeat.
Midfielder Sean Fraser used his speed to run onto a Nikola Vignjevic pass in the 45th minute and beat Vancouver goalkeeper Alex Marques.
In the 52nd minute, half-time substitute Freddy Akok took a Sean Fraser pass and lobbed it over Marques to tie the game at 2.
With time winding down in the 89th minute, Gordon Chin, the overtime hero against Calgary on June 28th, flicked the ball to Sean Fraser who scored from 8 yards out.
From there, the Aviators held on for the 3-2 win.
The Aviators now have a two game win streak heading into Seattle on July 7th (8pm MST).
