Edmonton, June 11, 2004 â The Edmonton Aviators Men (0W-4D-3L) play their eighth game of the season, and third home game, on June 15th (8:30pm MST) against the Montreal Impact (6W-1D-0L as of June 10) at Commonwealth Stadium.
The Montreal Impact finished the 2003 A-League regular season tied for first place overall with 54 points from 28 games played. They surrendered a league low 21 goals while scoring just 40 (11th in the league). Montreal was knocked out of the playoffs by the Rochester Raging Rhinos.
So far this season, Montreal has continued to play strong defensively, giving up just one goal in their first seven games. They have also started to put the ball in the back of the net, scoring 13 goals.
Leading the offensive charge for the Impact this season is Frederick Commodore who has five goals and one assist in four games played. Joel John Bailey has two goals for the Impact, while Mauro Biello, Sandro Grande, Patrick Leduc, Nevio Pizzolitto, Eduardo Sebrango, and Mauricio Vincello have all scored once. Patrick Leduc also has five assists to go with his one goal.
Goalkeeper Greg Sutton has six wins and one tie on the season, including six shutouts. His goals against average is a measly 0.135. As impressive as those statistics are, Sutton has only had to make 24 saves through his first seven games.
Montreal is expected to be one of the top teams in the A-League this year and are expected to challenge for the league championship.
