Aviators drop opener at El Paso

EL PASO, Texas – The Coastal Bend Aviators lost to the El Paso Diablos 3-2 in the opener of a four-game series Friday night at Cohen Stadium. The start of the game was delayed a hour and 29 minutes because of rain.

The Aviators scored both of their runs in the first inning. Chris Judkins led off the game and was hit by Bric Steed on the first pitch. Matt Mann followed with a double scoring Judkins. Mann scored when Jack Joffrion hit a RBI double making the score 2-0.

Juan Camacho hit a solo homerun cutting the score to 2-1 in the sixth inning.

El Paso tied the game on a RBI single from Carlos Sepulveda in the seventh inning. Also in the seventh, Oscar Macias hit a RBI double giving the Diablos a 3-2 lead.

J.J. Trujillo (1-3) took another tough loss for the Aviators. Kyle Zaleski (1-0) picked up the win in relief for El Paso. Derrick DePriest faced one batter and picked up his third save of the year.

Carlos Figueroa extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single in the eighth inning for the Aviators.

The Aviators continue the series at El Paso 8:05 Central Time Saturday. The Aviators return home on May 31st to take on Pensacola in a three-game series.
