Senators make roster moves

Jackson, MS; May 28, 2005 – The Jackson Senators of the Central Baseball League (CBL) announced today they have signed outfielder Selwyn Langaigne, infielder Jared Boyd and left-handed pitcher Javier Martinez to their roster. All three will be in uniform tonight as the Sens play host to the Shreveport Sports in game two of their 3-game series.

Langaigne, originally a non-drafted free agent signee of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993, returns to the Senators after being signed by the Minnesota Twins this past off-season. Last season with the Sens, Langaigne hit .305 with 22 doubles and 51 RBI in 78 games.

Boyd, a Perth Amboy, NJ native, comes to the Senators this season after stints with Winnipeg of the Northern League in both 2002 & '03 and last season with the New Jersey Jackals of the Northeast League. In limited action with the Jackals last year, he hit .294 with 5 doubles and 1 home run.

Martinez, a three-year pro from Maracaibo, Venezuela, was a non-drafted free agent signee of the Minnesota Twins in 2001. He has put up impressive numbers in his with a 12-5 record, an eye-popping 1.83 ERA and 165 strikeouts with only 66 walks.

To make room on the roster, the Senators have released outfielder Justin McMahan and infielder LaDarrell Banks while outfielder Jake Dickinson has been put on the disabled list.

The Jackson Senators are part of the Central Baseball League, an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is playing its twelfth season this summer with teams located in Edinburg, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Robstown, and San Angelo, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi. The CBL will play a 94-game schedule between May and August 2005.
