Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Avengers and the United Teachers Los Angeles have developed a secondary literacy and writing program in support of the National Education Association sponsored Read Across America.
The Avengers, The Princeton Review, MetLife, Beyond the Bell and the UTLA/NEA have joined to offer the "Read, Write, Succeed" Sweepstakes which will run from March 12 to April 20, to encourage the joys of reading and the importance of writing among secondary students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
"As an organization we are always looking to enrich the lives of our youth," Avenger owner and chief executive officer Casey Wasserman said. "The Avengers understand their role in the community and look forward to viewing the creative work."
LAUSD students in grades six through 12 have two options to enter the contest. Students may write an original free-style, limerick, or haiku poem with a sports theme or design an original newsletter with a sports theme with articles, poetry and pictures. The contest is an opportunity for students to express themselves and to recognized and be rewarded for their creative talents.
The winners will be selected from each of the UTLA designated areas from the North, South, East, West, Central, Valley East, Valley West, and Harbor.
