Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES - "A-Team" dancers Katie and Tiffany along with Los Angeles Dodger Randy Wolf, United States Olympic Gold Medalist Quincy Watts, Los Angeles Unified School District Board Representative Donna Smith and actor Mike Vogel visited Columbus Middle School in Canoga Park on Tuesday, January 16. The school visit was to help encourage youth and their families to participate in the Kids Fitness Challenge to build healthier communities through eating healthy and physical activity.

The "A-Team" dancers discussed the importance of eating healthy and exercising. The dancers also took the opportunity with fellow guests to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

On January 27, an estimated 10,000 kids, parents and teachers will participate in the Kids Fitness Challenge, which will start and finish inside the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Last year's challenge was one of the largest kids-focused, non-competitive 5K events in California state history.

"Physical fitness and proper nutrition is the key to healthy minds and bodies," Katie said. "I'm looking forward to seeing all these children and their families at the Rose Bowl."

The Avengers have chosen to help promote the event by donating a ticket voucher good for two tickets to an upcoming 2007 game at STAPLES Center for every child that participates in the challenge through their school's physical education programs.

This landmark event will rally Californians to eat healthy and be active to reduce childhood obesity and will feature NFL star Allen Rossum, Watts, Former NFL and USC player Curtis Conway, Olympic Trainer and National Fitness Hall of Fame Inductee John Abdo, Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Jonathon Fielding, Congress member Hilda Solis, State Senator Alex Padilla, actor Mike Vogel, Los Angeles Avengers "A-Team" dancers and a very special surprise.

All schools with at least 65 participants are eligible to receive a cash grant from the Fitness Challenge Foundation. Top schools may also win a Chick's Sporting Goods shopping spree or a school garden. Schools may also win fitness equipment and other prizes.

California's obesity epidemic, caused by poor nutrition and physical inactivity, has serious implications especially for the health of our children. Thirty-eight percent of California children ages nine to 11 are overweight or at a risk of becoming overweight. Close to 74 percent of youth are unfit and only 40 percent of teens meet minimum daily targets for physical activity. Poor nutrition and inactivity increases the risks of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer, and obesity.

The Avengers will kick off their eighth season in the 21-year-old Arena Football League at STAPLES Center on Sunday, March 4, versus the San Jose SaberCats.

Nine-game season ticket packages are on sale now. Please call 1-888-AVENGERS for more information or visit the team's official Website at www.laavengers.com.
