October 23, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Avengers trimmed five players off their preseason roster on Wednesday as the team prepares for its fourth season in the Arena Football League, which is set to kick off on Sunday, Feb. 2, at STAPLES Center versus the New Jersey Gladiators.
The five players waived are fullback-linebacker Malcolm Hamilton, wide receiver-defensive back Mel Miller Jr., and offensive-defensive linemen Tramont Lawless, Shatony Sargeant and Tim Seymour.
Hamilton made seven tackles in eight games for the Avengers last season. Miller participated in six games in 2001, and finished with 6 ½ stops. None of the three linemen saw any playing time for the Avengers last season.
In another transaction executed by the Avengers on Wednesday, offensive specialist Chris Jackson was removed from the exempt list and placed back on the active roster. He was on the exempt list while playing with the Green Bay Packers earlier this season. Jackson, who is the Avengers' all-time leading receiver, was with the Packers throughout their entire preseason schedule and rejoined the team to play in Green Bay's 17-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 29. He was released two days later.
Avenger season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
