Avengers announce new radio play-by-play voices
January 9, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- Isaac Lowenkron and Andrew Siciliano will share the radio play-by-play duties for the Los Angeles Avengers during the upcoming 2007 campaign.
AM 570 (KLAC) will be the Avengers' flagship radio station once again this season. The team's eighth season of play in the Arena Football League will begin on Sunday, March 4, at STAPLES Center against the San Jose SaberCats.
Lowenkron and Siciliano will each call eight regular-season games.
The duo is taking over for Larry Kahn, who was the radio play-by-play voice of the Avengers since the team's inaugural 2000 season. Kahn has stepped aside to concentrate year-round on operating the Sports USA Radio Network, a company he founded that broadcasts nationally syndicated NFL and college football games.
Troy West will return for his fourth season as the Avengers' radio color commentator in 2007.
Lowenkron, who filled in for Kahn on several Avenger games last season, is a reporter and anchor for AM 570, covering all of Los Angeles' professional and college teams on a daily basis. He also serves as a correspondent for NBA TV, and has worked as a reporter for Fox Sports Radio and Fox News Radio.
In addition to his Avenger broadcasts during the 2006 AFL season, Lowenkron also did radio play-by-play for the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.
Before joining AM 570 in April, 2001, he spent three seasons as the play-by-play announcer for USC baseball.
Although new to the Avengers, Siciliano is no stranger to the AFL. He spent the previous four seasons as the radio play-by-play voice of the Las Vegas Gladiators. He also was the television voice of the Gladiators for the past two seasons, hosted Fox Sports Net's "AFL Weekly" in 2005 and was a sideline reporter for OLN's coverage of the AFL last season.
Siciliano currently hosts "Game Time Live," which is syndicated nightly on Fox Sports Radio. On television, he anchors DirecTV's "Red Zone Channel" and FSN's "Final Score." Siciliano also appears regularly on FSN's "Totally Football" and ESPN's "Jim Rome is Burning."
He also has done play-by-play work for Syracuse University and was an award-winning member of the Chicago Bears broadcast crew.
West, who has been part of the Avenger broadcast team since 2004, also works for the Sports USA Radio Network, patrolling the sidelines at NFL and college football games. During the 2006 calendar year, he took part in a total of 39 football broadcasts.
An All-Pac-10 defensive back at USC, West led the Trojans in interceptions as a senior in 1982. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the eighth round of the 1983 NFL Draft and also went on to play with the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition, West played three seasons with the Los Angeles Express of the USFL and set a league record with interceptions in five consecutive games.
AM 570 is also the radio home of the Los Angles Lakers, UCLA Bruins, Los Angeles Kings and Oakland Raiders. AM 570's on-air lineup includes: Fred Roggin, T.J. Simers, Tracy Simers, Jim Rome, Steve Hartman, Mychal Thompson, Vic "The Brick" Jacobs, Petros Papadakis, Matt "Money" Smith, Joe McDonnell and Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton.
The Avengers' season opener against the SaberCats on March 4 features the past two Western Division champions (Los Angeles in 2005 and San Jose in 2006). Kickoff at STAPLES Center is set for 7 p.m.
Avenger season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
