Austin Toros' Malik Hairston Named NBA D-League Performer of the Week

NEW YORK, Dec. 22, 2008 - Malik Hairston of the Austin Toros was today named the NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Dec. 15, 2008.

Hairston led the Toros to three straight wins this week, averaging 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while tying a season-high when he scored 33 points in Thursday's win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He finished the week 27-of-46 from the field (.587). The Toros have now won six consecutive games.

The 6-6 Hairston was allocated to Austin before this season after participating in training camp with the San Antonio Spurs. An All-PAC 10 player at Oregon, Hairston was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the second round (48th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft before being traded to San Antonio. This season he is averaging 19.5 points and 5.9 rebounds in 11 games for Austin.

Other top performers last week included Bakersfield's Derrick Byars, who averaged 24.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in two games for the Jam; Gary Forbes led Sioux Falls to three wins, averaging 23.0 points 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the Skyforce; Boston Celtics' assignee J.R. Giddens averaged 24.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two wins for the Utah Flash; Albuquerque's David Noel averaged 29.5 points in two games for the Thunderbirds; and James White averaged 26.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in three games for the Anaheim Arsenal.
