Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (July 9, 2015)- The Austin Aztex announced Thursday afternoon they have received midfielder Romain Gall from its MLS affiliate Columbus Crew SC on loan.
Internationally, Gall has represented the United States at the youth level, making his first appearance for the Under-20s in November of 2013. He recently participated in the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where he was the Golden Boot winner of the tournament with five tallies. Prior to his time with the U-20s, Gall made several appearances with the U-18 squad.
"Romain is one of the top young American players in the country, he proved this by being the top goal-scorer for the U-20 team in qualifying last year," Aztex Head Coach Paul Dalglish said. "We are delighted to welcome him to Austin, and play our part in helping him fulfill his potential. This is another exciting development in our ever-growing affiliation with Columbus Crew SC."
Gall has made three Major League Soccer regular-season appearances since being signed by Crew SC via weighted lottery on August 7, 2014. His MLS debut came during a second-half substitution in the Black & Gold's contest vs. Houston at MAPFRE Stadium on August 23, 2014. This season, he made his competitive debut for Crew SC in Orlando for Crew SC's Round of 16 contest in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 30. He also appeared in the Black & Gold's international friendly against Valencia CF at MAPFRE Stadium on May 27.
"This is a chance for Romain to continue his development by getting match experience with the Aztex," said Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. "Romain continues to progress and we believe game action in a competitive environment in Austin will benefit him."
Gall is the third Crew SC player to be loaned to Austin as part of the affiliation agreement announced between both clubs in late November, 2014, as Kalen Ryden and Adam Bedell spent time with the Aztex earlier in the season. Crew SC retain the option to recall Gall at any point while on loan.
"We are thankful to Gregg and the Crew SC for putting their trust in us with their young players," Dalglish said.
The Aztex continue their season with a road trip to Salt Lake City where they will take on Real Monarchs. In their previous meeting, the Aztex scored two dramatic goals late in the game to stun Real Monarchs by a score of 3-2. The Aztex will then return home to face Arizona United SC on Friday, May 17 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
