Austin Aces Defeat Springfield Lasers in Final Regular Season Home Match 21-15

In the last game of their regular season, the Aces took on the Springfield Lasers in a Western Conference matchup at Gregory Gym in Austin, Texas. The Aces defeated the Springfield Lasers 21-15, bringing their overall record to 12-2 in the regular season.

The first set was men's doubles. Jarmere Jenkins and Teymuraz Gabashvili of the Aces played against Andre Begemann and Michael Russell of the Lasers. Both teams played exceptionally well, which brought the set to the tiebreaker. The Aces won the tiebreak and the set 5-4.

Next was women's doubles. Elina Svitolina and Alla Kudryavtseva from the Aces fought against Alison Riske and Anna-Lena Groenefeld from the Lasers. With Riske's volleys and the Aces' unforced errors, the ladies of Springfield won the set 5-1. The Aces trailed 9-6 after two sets.

Following was men's singles. The Aces' Gabashvili took on the Lasers' Russell. Gabashvili was struggling with his serve and Russell was winning the long rallies in the first part of the set. Luckily, Gabashvili staged a comeback and won the set 5-2. The Aces took a 14-8 lead into halftime.

Next up was mixed doubles with Kudryavtseva and Gabashvili of the Aces against Groenefeld and Begemann of the Lasers. A strong set was played but Kudryavtseva and Gabashvili won the important points, winning the set 5-1. After four sets the Aces led 16-12 going into women's singles.

It was all up to the Aces' newest player, Elina Svitolina, playing Alison Riske of the Lasers in women's singles. Riske gave the world #20 a run for her money with her well-placed forehands but Svitolina pulled it out winning the set, 5-3. The Austin Aces beat the Springfield Lasers 21-15.

The next Aces home match is Thursday, July 30th at 7pm. This will be the Western Conference Championship where the Aces will play the California Dream in hopes of becoming the Western Conference Champions. The Western Conference Champion plays the Eastern Conference Champion on Sunday, August 2nd.
