Aumer Scholarship Boosted by $16.50 Campaign
March 5, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - During November, the Waterloo Black Hawks played just two of ten scheduled games. Alterations to the schedule had wide-ranging effects, including limiting the ability of the organization to highlight the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund as part of the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture. As a result, the Hawks, 1650 The Fan, and Slumberland Furniture are making the Aumer Scholarship fund the organization which benefits from the campaign once again during the month of March.
"This effort to help Waterloo youth and high school hockey players continue to celebrate achievements after they wrap up their Waterloo Warrior careers deserves our full attention," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "It was an easy decision to circle back now that we have found a more consistent routine later in the season."
The scholarship was created in 2017 in memory of Dave Aumer, a youth advocate and supporter of the Waterloo Warriors hockey program. Dave's family and friends established the fund to benefit graduating senior Warriors high school players who are in good team standing, have maintained a 2.5 or better grade point average, and plan to attend an accredited public or private college or university, vocational technical school, or any other accredited institution. The $500 scholarship is renewable each year the student is enrolled in postsecondary education, and it is managed by the Waterloo Community Foundation.
As part of the $16.50 Campaign, the goal is for 100 Black Hawks fans to make a modest contribution of $16.50 to the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund during the month of March. If that goal is achieved, collectively fans will have the opportunity to take pride in an impactful total gift of $1,650 at month's end.
