Auction of Jerseys, Autographs Added to Hockey Night

New Haven County Cutters News Release

It is right around this time of year that the Stanley Cup is awarded to the NHL champions. Because of the league's work stoppage, that will not be happening this year. But that doesn't mean hockey fans can't get some hockey fill. The New Haven County Cutters will host Hockey Night on Friday, June 3, part of the team's opening seven-game homestand at Yale Field, and it will be a chance for all fans to immerse themselves in hockey.

The Cutters announced several additions to Hockey Night Thursday, including an auction of autographed jerseys for charity, a noted announcer and two significant memorabilia collections that will be on display.

It wouldn't be much of a Hockey Night if there weren't legitimate hockey stars in attendance. No need to worry about that because the Cutters have an All-Star roster of current and former players scheduled to appear. Connecticut native and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Brian Leetch, a Cutters investor, will throw out the first pitch. He will be joined by his former New York Rangers teammates Mike Richter, Kevin Stevens and Tom Poti. Others scheduled to appear include Harvard head coach and former Boston Bruin Ted Donato and two Hartford Whalers icons, Ulf Samuelsson and Kevin Dineen. Ron Francis could not attend because of his daughter's graduation.

In addition to signing autographs in the Fun Zone, all the hockey stars will be wearing hockey jerseys that will be individually signed and then auctioned off in a silent auction. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Travis Roy Foundation, a charity established to help spinal cord injury survivors and to fund research into a cure. Roy established the foundation after he severely injured his spinal cord only 11 seconds into his college hockey career at Boston University and was left a quadriplegic.

The hockey atmosphere at Yale Field will already be quite apparent because of different between-inning hockey-themed promotions and events that will take place over the course of the game with some of the NHLers expected to participate.

The Cutters have added some more names to ensure this is one night hockey enthusiasts can't miss.

Sam Rosen, the former voice of the New York Rangers and current Fox NFL broadcaster, will be handling the pre-game introduction of the NHL players.

The Hartford Whalers Booster Club, still in existence, will have a display set up of memorabilia from Connecticut's only NHL team. Joining them is the New Haven Traveling Hockey Museum, which will be bringing along various trophies, jerseys and other pieces of hockey lore. The Danbury Trashers of the UHL also will have a table set up at Yale Field.

Fans wanting to get in on the hockey spirit can obtain newly-designed Cutters hockey jerseys at Yale Field or online at www.CuttersBaseball.com or wear their own hockey gear and receive a discount on ticket prices.

Tickets for Hockey Night, or any other Cutters home game, including opening night on Monday, can be purchased online at www.CuttersBaseball.com, by calling 203-777-5636 or by visiting the Yale Field box office.
