Atlético Ottawa returned home and, once again, bounced back from a defeat in thrilling fashion as Carlos González's side took another important step towards finishing in the coveted Canadian Premier League play-off positions. Against an HFX Wanderers side full of creativity and determination, Atleti snatched the three points from the jaws of a stalemate to send the committed crowd into pandemonium.
Unable to rest on their laurels, an exhausting game week (having played last Saturday in Victoria) culminates on Sunday as the Capital-based team head to Calgary for the first time this season to face Cavalry FC (5.30pm EST live on OnSoccer).
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa's victory over HFX Wanderers was their tenth of the season, entering double digits for wins in a single season for the first time in franchise history.
All three goal scorers for Atleti found the back of the net for the first time this season (Keven Alemán, Maxim Tissot and Iván Pérez).
Alemán's effort, from an unorthodox angle, caught Wanderers keeper Christian Oxner off guard.
Although the effort could've been misconstrued as a cross, the 28-year-old said that cutting across the ball in the way he did was intentional.
A night for left-footed defenders to score at the back-post, Gatineau-born Tissot and Pérez added an extra threat with their late runs into the penalty area.
Head Coach González revealed in the post-match press conference that increasing the numbers of players entering the final third, especially as the back post, was a tactic that was worked on in training during the week.
Tissot doubled the hosts' lead in the 51st minute, finishing off a swift move that started with Ottawa regaining possession on the edge of their own penalty area.
Returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, Spaniard Pérez came off the bench in the 73rd minute to score Atleti's winning goal the first minute of stoppage time.
Despite shipping two goals, Atleti put on another resolute defensive effort, stifling the Wanderers throughout much of the match.
The hosts' starting backline made a combined 25 clearances

Ottawa now heads to Calgary to face Cavalry FC on Sunday, August 21st (KO 5.30PM ET).

L'Atlético d'Ottawa est revenu à la maison et, une fois de plus, a rebondi d'une défaite de manière palpitante. L'équipe de Carlos González a fait un nouveau pas important vers la position convoitée de barragiste de la Canadian Premier League. Face à une équipe des HFX Wanderers pleine de créativité et de détermination, l'Atleti a arraché les trois points de l'impasse pour faire vibrer le public.
Incapable de se reposer sur ses lauriers, une semaine de match épuisante (après avoir joué samedi dernier à Victoria) culmine dimanche lorsque l'équipe de la capitale se rend à Calgary pour la première fois de la saison pour affronter le Cavalry FC (17h30 EST en direct sur OnSoccer).
MOMENTS CLÉS
La victoire de l'Atlético d'Ottawa sur les HFX Wanderers était sa dixième de la saison, entrant dans les deux chiffres de victoires en une seule saison pour la première fois dans l'histoire de la franchise.
Les trois buteurs de l'Atlético ont trouvé le fond du filet pour la première fois cette saison (Keven Alemán, Maxim Tissot et Iván Pérez).
