In a busy week featuring three matches in three different cities and timezones, Atlético Ottawa were back on the road again on Sunday, this time making their first-ever visit to ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows to face Cavalry FC. With the opportunity to recapture the top position in the league with a win, Atleti went into enemy territory blazing hot and secured the three points in a convincing 3-0 win on the road.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa showed no sign of fatigue despite the short rest and long miles travelled ahead of this matchup.

Midfielder Keven Alemán scored a stellar goal (45+2') to give his side the lead seconds before the halftime break, leaving absolutely no question as to his intentions on that strike (in contrast to his Wednesday night stupendous goal), and scoring in a second consecutive match.

Teams had to deal with an extended halftime break due to menacing weather conditions in the area, pushing the start of the second period by over an hour.

Spaniard Sergio Camus made his Atlético Ottawa debut coming off the bench in the 79' minute.

Forward Brian Wright added a security goal in the 79' minute, his fifth this year. And Ollie Bassett added a third goal (89'), giving him the team scoring leader position outright with six goals on the season.

A recent addition to the squad by way of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 program (loan), Calgary-born Owen Antoniuk earned his first start with Atlético Ottawa on the day. A local product of the Calgary Blizzard SC, Calgary Foothills SC and the Whitecaps FC Alberta Academy Centre, the versatile midfielder played 45 minutes, putting up one shot in two big chances, and regaining possession five times for his side.

With this 11th win of the 2022 campaign (1!W-5D-5L), Ottawa regains the top position in the Canadian Premier League standings with 38 points, three points now separating them from their upcoming rivals Forge FC and Pacific FC (tied in second with 35 points).

Ottawa will happily come home for their next match, one of only three home matches left in the regular season, this Saturday, August 27 at 6:30PM ET, when they host Ontario-foe Forge FC at TD Place in a Soccer for Everyone celebration match.
