Atlanta Vibe News Release
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Atlanta Vibe (14-4) swept the San Diego Mojo (5-8) in three sets on Wednesday evening, shutting them out with a season-best attack efficiency to grab the team's fifth-straight win and 10th in their last 11 matches.
The win gives the league-leading Vibe a larger lead over the second-place Omaha Supernovas (11-5), who they will host back in Atlanta this Saturday, April 13, for what could be a preview of the 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation Championship match.
Atlanta finishes the inaugural series against San Diego without ever having dropped a single set to the Mojo in their four matchups, resulting in a 12-0 set score for the Vibe in the series. The Vibe grabbed their eighth sweep of the season in tonight's match, the most of any team in the league this year.
A quick start from the new-look Mojo put Atlanta in a deficit early in the first set on Wednesday night, but a consistent attack and a scrappy back-row defense from the Vibe helped them stay strong and take the match in straight sets.
Setter Marlie Monserez dished out 31 assists to aid a team-season-high .392 attack for the visiting Vibe. Middle blocker Magdalena Jehláøová led the team with a .562 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 16 attacks, making her one of five Vibe players to hit over 30 percent: Monserez hit .750 with a season-high 6 kills, Grace Cleveland also hit .750 with three kills all in the final five points of the match, Leah Edmond hit .423 for her second 40% performance in three matches, and Anna Lazareva's 10 kills came at a .333 clip.
Atlanta's nine blocks, 27 block touches and 54 digs helped to keep San Diego at a .106 hitting percentage and just a .059 in the third set alone.
The Vibe now head home to the A to host the Omaha Supernovas for ATL Day on Saturday, April 13, as an extension of the city's annual 404 Day festivities. Tickets for the Saturday night party at Gas South Arena and all remaining Vibe matches are available at AtlantaVibe.com.
