Ask the CEO

Question from Robert in Newark: "Does the ABA plan to sign any of the players being cut from NBA teams this season?"
Answer: Robert. Good question. Have received many similar questions. There are some outstanding players being cut or waived by the NBA as the teams get set for their season. There are only so many spots on the NBA rosters. (The Nets just waived Matt Walsh and Awvee Storey. Yesterday there were 18 players cut or waived by the NBA teams). These players want to continue their careers and will be looking for the best opportunities available to do that. I am sure that many will accept international contracts; others will look at leagues in the US - including the ABA. While most of our rosters are close to complete, there are quite a few teams looking for additional players and we would welcome the players that have been cut or waived by the NBA teams to call our teams. One of the primary goals of the ABA is to provide a place to play for talented basketball players at a high level - we'll have over 600 players in our league this season - and close to 900 next season. Thanks for the question. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
