October 10, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Mark W, Buffalo, NY: "You recently announced that Dayshawn Wright had signed with the Buffalo Silverbacks. I just saw that he signed with the Minot Skyrockets in the other league. How is that possible?"

Answer: Mark. Thank you for the question. I paraphrased it a bit. It should not be possible for Dayshawn Wright to sign with a team in "the other league." He has a written contract with the Buffalo Silverbacks who provided a house for him, a personal trainer, health supplements, and was paying him. The contract was signed on July 27th and approved by Dayshawn's agent, Alex Yam. The agent, the other team's coach, the other league were all aware of the fact that Dayshawn had signed a contract. It made no difference to them. I am totally surprised that Kazumi and James Hasagawa, the owners, would allow this - I am not surprised that the coach, the general manager or the league would blatantly breach a contract. Dayshawn Wright is a good player who should be in the NBA and will probably end up there. However, judgment and character of all involved are questionable. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
