Asheville, N.C., Jan. 30, 2004 - The Asheville Altitude bench came to life in the second half, turning a halftime tie into a 104-94 victory against the Roanoke Dazzle Friday night at the Asheville Civic Center. Player of the Game Brandon Kurtz led all scorers with 22 points, 14 in the second half and Kareem Reid poured in 10 of his 12 points in the final 2:20 of the game to secure the Altitude win.

"It took me a while to get my legs back after the injury," said Kurtz, "but I felt good tonight."

The Altitude opened the third quarter with a 23-11 run to gain a 12 point lead against the Dazzle. Roanoke showed life with a 6-0 spurt of their own, but Brandon Kurtz answered with four quick points to halt any comeback.

Roanoke, short handed by a nine-man roster, made another challenge near the end of the game but Asheville, 8-0 when leading at the five minute mark, commanded a 11 point lead with a little under 5:00 to go to continue their streak and seal the win.

"We had a good stretch in the second half, but we got sloppy at the end," said Asheville Head Coach Joey Meyer. "I wasn't pleased with the way we finished, but we got a win at home."

Desmond Penigar registered a double-double for the Altitude with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kris Lang and Gary Williams each chipped in 14 points. In addition to his 12 points, Kareem Reid dished out a game-high seven assists coming off the bench. Brandin Knight handed out five assists to go along with his eight points. The Altitude bench outscored Roanoke's 60-38.

"We've got 10 starters on our team as far as I'm concerned," said Meyer.

Marque Perry paced the Dazzle with a double-double in the losing effort, pouring in 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Terrence Shannon added 19 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench. Josh Asselin, who lit Asheville up for 27 points in their previous meeting, scored only 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Geoff Owens and George Williams each chipped in 10 points for Roanoke.

The Altitude, now 8-11, returns to action tomorrow night when they host the 6-17 Columbus Riverdragons at the Asheville Civic Center.
