A's Score Early and Often, Take 1-0 Series Lead Over Danbury

Brooklyn Aviators News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The New York Aviators made things look easy Friday night in Federal Hockey League playoff action and took a 1-0 advantage in a best of five series, cruising to victory over the visiting Danbury Whalers by a score of 9-2.
Seven different Aviators were credited with a goal but it was A's center Jesse Felten who lead the way with a hat trick. From the moment the puck dropped, it was evident that New York was looking to take control early and they never looked back.
As expected, both teams came out playing aggressively in the opening frame but the hometown A's dominated a majority of the period with the help of four different goal scorers. Andrew Scampoli, Warren Galloway and Jesse Felten each found the back of the net early on, and before 7 minutes of play were through, the A's had taken a commanding 3-0 lead. Just a few minutes later, Danbury got on the board with a power play goal off the stick of Devin Guy to cut the A's lead to two. However, the Whalers were unable to stop the bleeding in the 1st and allowed yet another goal to A's center K.C Timmons who beat Whaler's goalie Nick Neidert top shelf, stretching the lead back to three and New York took a 4-1 lead into the locker room.
The Aviators controlled the entire 2nd period and lengthened their lead once again. Felten scored his 2nd is as many periods to widen the A's lead to four. John Goffredo, a native of Washingtonville, NY beat Neidert again just minutes later to give New York a 6-1 lead. Aviator's goaltender Kevin Druce continued his stellar play in net, pushing away all Danbury shots on goal during the period and New York held on to a comfortable 6-1 lead heading to the 3rd and final period.
It was only more of the same in the final 20 minutes of play - more goals for New York and more frustration for Danbury. The A's added 3 more goals, one a piece from Matt Puntereri, Casey Mignone and Felten. The Whalers scored late in garbage time but it was far too late as the Aviators faithful had already begun celebrating the win.
As easy as it looked for New York to add onto their lead, it looked equally as difficult for the visiting Whalers to beat Druce in goal. After allowing a goal in the middle of the 1st period, Druce buckled down and was true to his form, turning away all but one of the Whalers shots on goal for the remainder of the game. Druce takes his first win of these playoffs and goes to 1-0-0. Niedert is nabbed with the loss for Danbury and is 0-1-1.
These two teams return to action for Game 2 of this best-of-five series on Saturday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30PM and great tickets are still on sale by logging onto www.newyorkaviators.com, or by calling 718-758-7580. If you cannot make it in, tune into the Aviators' radio network with the pregame show starting at 7:15PM with Carmine Vetrano and Grant Tunkel.
