Arthur Hobbs Jr. Joins Lions

January 31, 2020 - National Arena League (NAL) - Columbus Lions News Release

The Columbus Lions have signed journeyman Arthur Hobbs to the team. Hobbs, who graduated from Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, California, would find his way to Grossmont College before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Hobbs would go undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft but still ended up on his hometown team San Diego Chargers practice squad. The next season, Hobbs would sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He would record 32 tackles and two interceptions. The Tiger-Cats would reach the 101st Grey Cup vs the Saskatchewan Roughriders but fall short 45-23.

Hobbs would spend the following year on the Calgary Stampeders and then make his move to the AFL in 2016 when he signed with the Orlando Predators where he recorded three tackles and one forced fumble. The journey continued as Hobbs moved to the Tampa Bay Storm for the 2017 season. He would have 22 tackles on the season. The Tampa Bay Storm would fold later that year after losing in Arena Bowl XXX 44-40 to the Philadelphia Soul. The next team up would be the Albany Empire where Hobbs totaled up 29 total tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception. Albany would finish the season 8-4, best in the AFL, but come up short against Washington in the semifinals of the playoffs. Finally, in 2019, Hobbs ended up on the Atlantic City Blackjacks who would finish 4-8. Although Hobbs missed the playoffs, he put on his best season of his career with 53 total tackles.

From California to the east coast to now Columbus, Georgia, Hobbs brings his near decade experience with him to the Lions' defense and that alone has head coach Jason Gibson excited. "Arthur has a tremendous resume and his experience is going to rub off on some of the rookies. Him and Marvin Ross working together in the same backfield is going to be tuff for any opposing QB"

The Columbus Lions open the season Friday, April 17th at home against the defending NAL Champions the Jacksonville Sharks.
