Toronto Arrows News Release

TORONTO, ON - The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce that winger D'Shawn Bowen is returning to the club for the 2024 Major League Rugby season.

Bowen, 26, is back with the Arrows for his sophomore campaign after featuring in 10 matches (eight starts) across his first MLR season.

The five-foot-nine, 210-pound back posted 637 carry metres on 48 carries while tacking on 57 tackles, 23 defenders beaten, three linebreaks, and an offload throughout his first professional season in North America. His five tries, including a memorable hat trick on his home debut, placed him second on the team's 2023 try-scoring leaderboard.

"I am really excited to be coming back for a second season with the Arrows," said Bowen. "I'm very determined to leave it all out there and honour the great Bill Webb by showing we are a competitive team in the league."

Bowen arrived at the club midway through the 2023 season after spending the previous two international seasons with Rugby Canada's national men's sevens program.

The speedster made his World Rugby Sevens Series debut at Dubai in 2021 and went on to feature at 10 stops on the circuit, scoring six tries in the process. He also represented Canada at the 2022 editions of the Commonwealth Games and the Rugby World Cup Sevens.

Following the 2023 MLR campaign, Bowen earned a call-up to the Canadian national side for its August tour to Fiji and Tonga.

"We're excited that D'Shawn will be back with us for 2024," said Tim Matthews, Toronto Arrows Vice President and General Manager. "Not only is he a player on the rise and a potent finisher, but he is a great person to have around the club. He is a positive and enthusiastic teammate who is very driven to improve."

"He is very dedicated both on and off the pitch and we look forward to him continuing to play and develop here."

The hometown Torontonian is a graduate of both the Pacific Pride (Rugby Canada's national development academy program) and Ontario Blues provincial program.

The club will be making additional signing announcements in the coming weeks as 2024 season preparations continue to build.
