FC Cincinnati News Release

FC Cincinnati forward Arquimides Ordoñez has been named to the 21-man Guatemalan U-20 National Team roster for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.

The 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup begins May 20. Guatemala will play on the opening day of the competition against New Zealand, with La Azul y Blanco drawn in Group A alongside the hosts Argentina and Uzbekistan.

Earlier this month, Ordoñez was named to a preparation camp which ran until Thursday to determine the final roster for Guatemala at their first U-20 World Cup since 2011. The 19-year-old was key in helping La Azul y Blanco qualify for this year's U-20 World Cup, leading the team to the semifinals of the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship last summer with five goals.

Ordoñez, the only player to score in all three group stage games in the Concacaf U-20 Championship last year, scored his five goals in six appearances and was named to the tournament's Best XI.

Ordoñez signed with FC Cincinnati as a Homegrown Player from the FC Cincinnati Academy and scored his first goal for the Orange and Blue against Louisville City, an 85th minute game-winner in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup on April 26. In just three appearances this season for FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, the Fort Thomas, Kentucky native ranks second in the league with six goals scored.
