SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Canton Charge defeated the Eastern Conference champion Springfield Armor 108-93 in game one of the teams' NBA Development League Playoff series, presented by BBVA, inside the Canton Memorial Civic Center in Canton, Ohio tonight. The two teams will return to action on Sunday inside the MassMutual Center in Springfield at 7:00 p.m. in game two of the best-of-three series, marking the first home playoff game in Armor history.
Canton took control of the game from the opening tip in their first-ever playoff game in the franchise's inaugural season. An Antoine Agudio layup with 10:19 to go in the first quarter gave Canton a 6-5 lead that the Charge would never relinquish.
The Armor trailed by just four points after one quarter, but Canton stretched the lead to 56-45 by halftime. The Charge extended the advantage to 21 points by the end of the third quarter and led by as many as 29 points, 94-65, with 9:35 to go. The Armor managed to rally to the tune of a 22-6 run to trim the deficit to 100-86 late in the fourth, but the Charge held on late to secure the victory with clutch foul shooting down the stretch.
L.D. Williams scored a team-high 24 points, JamesOn Curry added 19 points and 6 assists, Lance Hurdle contributed 18 points off the bench and Dennis Horner rounded out the double figures scorers with 13 points. Jeff Foote recorded a season-high 17 rebounds, including 10 in the first quarter.
The Charge had six players score in double figures, led by T.J. Campbell's 24 points. Cleveland Cavaliers' assignee Luke Harangody chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds and Agudio added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Armor shot just 33-84 (.393) from the field and were out-rebounded 53-41. Canton connected on 44-90 (.489) from the field and snared 17 offensive rebounds in the victory.
The two teams have now split four meetings this season.
