Arkansas RimRockers News Release
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., March 16 - Clay Tucker had 25 points and 11 assists as he led the Arkansas RimRockers to a 142-130 victory over the Colorado 14ers Friday night at Alltel Arena.
Arkansas set a new NBA D-League single game record with most points scored, 142, as they shot over 52% from the field. Colorado also shot the ball over 50% and helped set the D-League all-time record for combined points in one game at 272.
"We feel like that's the way we want to play, too. We want to get the ball up and down the court. It fits both of our style's of play, theirs and ours. For us to come out here and play the way we did, it feels real good." said Tucker.
Arkansas, who has already been eliminated from playoff contention, improved their record to 12-30. Colorado (26-15) began the game fighting for the top seed in the Western Division with the Idaho Stampede.
"They played well. They shared the ball, played defense and didn't lose focus" said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "That's what we needed to do before. When the ball is moving and everyone's touching it, we're scoring."
Tucker was joined by the rest of the RimRockers team as every player who dressed scored in double figures, led by Roger Powell's game high 29. Matt Haryasz also chipped in with 13, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
The RimRockers trailed early as the 14ers used a 9-2 run late in the first quarter to take a 39-33 lead to the intermission behind the hot shooting of Von Wafer. Wafer went 4-6 from behind the arc as he scored 13 of his 19 points in the first quarter. Arkansas was able to climb their way back in the game with a strong second quarter to take a 67-63 lead to the locker rooms.
Arkansas used a strong third quarter to extend their lead to 12 as they took the 14ers to the final period with a 108-96 score. A Haryasz lay-up with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter put the RimRockers over the century point total.
"We came out and played aggressive after halftime. A majority of the time we come out of the locker room lackadaisical, whether we're up or down. We just took it upon ourselves to come out and be the aggressor after halftime." said Tucker.
Colorado used a couple of late surges to cut the lead to 4 but the RimRockers guards were too strong and ended the game with a 17-9 run.
