Arkansas Loses Close Game 51-49

(North Little Rock, AR) - The Arkansas Twisters came out for their game against Lubbock confident and in control, but the Renegades come back with 21 unanswered points and escaped Arkansas with a 51-49 win at Alltel Arena in front of 5466 fans.

Arkansas was very much in control when Jon Schoonover caught an 11 yard pass from Davon Vinson to put Arkansas up 21-9 in the second quarter.

Lubbock (4-5) would score the next 21 points to take a 30-21 lead. John King scored twice during the run on Robert Kent touchdown passes.

Arkansas climbed back with two on several occasions, the final time coming in the fourth quarter. With Lubbock up 51-35, Arkansas rallied for two touchdowns. Vinson found Terrance Freeney and he ran it the distance for the first score. Then Kevin Williams scored on a short two yards pass and the extra point by David Carlton pulled Arkansas within 51-49.

The Twisters were unable to prevent the Renegades from running the final 2:00 minutes off the clock and Arkansas' comeback fell short.

Kent finished the game by completing 27 of 39 passes for 390 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. John King led all players with eight catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns. Jason Tezeno and Chris Highsaw each pulled in seven catches and one touchdown. Charles Ealy and Antonia Huffman each had an interception while MoQut Ruffins and Kenyon Scott each had a sack.

Vinson had his best game as starter for the Twisters. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 264 yards, seven total touchdowns and two interceptions. Jon Schoonover led the team with seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. Pierre Thomas led the Twisters with 7.5 tackles and an interception. Jason Simpson finished with six total tackles and an interception.

Arkansas (6-3) has the week off and won't return to action until the team takes on Oklahoma City for the first time this season at Alltel Arena on June 16.
