
Arizona Grabs Win In Game One

[ PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz.]- Arizona came from behind in the third period to grab a 7-6 victory on Friday night. The Sundogs hold a 1-0 edged is the best-of-seven series.
Arizona showed why their power play was tops in the CHL during the regular season. Cory Urquhart took a back door pass and lifted a perfect shot into the net at the 9:52 mark of the first period.
On the very next shift the Scorpions responded. Ray Ortiz and Ross McCain worked hard behind the net to protect the puck. McCain threw a pass to the front of the net which Kevin Harvey tipped in, tying the game at one.
Late in the first period the Sundogs grabbed their second lead of the game. Arizona parked bodies in front of the net and Urquhart threw the puck in that direction. Alex Leavitt got his stick on the puck and pushed it over goaltender Andrew Martin.
The lead grew to two goals when Urquhart scored his second power play goal of the game 5:25 into the second period. Arizona continued to put pucks on net, but Martin made save after save.
The Scorpions came back with two goals late in the third period. Konrad Reeder finished a two-on-one breakaway with Mitch Stephens at the the16:40 mark. With less than a minute remaining, Dominic Osman got his first career playoff goal, tying the game.
The Scorpions came out fast in the third period when Osman knocked in his second goal of the game at the 2:17 mark. Craig Macdonald gave New Mexico a two goal lead less than a minute later.
Arizona went back to the power just two minutes later and capitalized. Dan Laperriere walked in-between the circles and scored his first goal of the playoffs. The Sundogs tied the game just over a minute later with Chris Bartolone's power play goal.
The home team grabbed back control of the game when David Schlemko scored a rebound goal at the 7:29 mark of the final frame. Schlemko jumped on another rebound halfway through the third period, giving Arizona the eventual game winning goal. Chris Robertson added a late power play goal but it wasn't enough.
The series continues in Prescott Valley on Saturday. The game begins at 8:05 p.m. and can be heard live on 610 The Sports Animal or seen on the CHL Network.
The series shifts back to the Santa Ana Star Center the following week. The Scorpions will host games on Wednesday, April 2nd, Friday, April 4th and Saturday April 5th. All three home games start at 7:15 p.m.
