Hounds fall to Eagles in game one 6-4

LOVELAND, COLORADO - The Youngstown SteelHounds fell to the Colorado Eagles 6-4 in game one of the Northern Conference Semifinals. The Hounds are 0-9-1 life time and 0-4 for the playoffs at the Budweiser Events Center.

Colorado struck first as Greg Pankewicz scored a power play goal from Ed McGrane and Ryan Tobler at 5:12 to make it 1-0. Colorado was 2-7 while Youngstown was 2-12 on the power play. The Hounds answered 1:11 later with a power play goal of their own from Steve Birnstill. Bryan Lachapelle and Chris Richards had the assists to make it 1-1. Ed McGrane scored from Pankewicz at 13:34 to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead after one period. McGrane had two goals and an assist for the game. The Eagles out shot the Hounds 16-8 after one period.

The tide started the turn in the second period as Brad Patterson made a steal in the neutral zone and beat Sebastien Laplante at 11:20 for his first goal since returning to the team earlier in the month to tie the game 2-2. The rally continued as Eric Przepiorka banged home a rebound from Chris Richards and Bryan Lachapelle to score a power play goal at 13:49 to give the Hounds a 3-2 lead. Bryan Lachapelle capped off the rally with a goal at 15:58 from Ryan Bennett and Chris Richards to make it 4-2. Lachapelle had a goal and two assists while Chris Richards had three assists to pace the Hounds. The comeback was on though as Ryan Tobler scored a power play goal from Riley Nelson at 16:40 and Ed McGrane added an even strength goal from Seth Leonard 39 seconds later to tie game at four after 40 minutes of play. Youngstown out shot the Eagles 17-12 for the period.

At 12:36 of the third period Seth Leonard came from behind the net and flicked a shot that went off of Andy Franck and over his shoulder for a goal to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. Fraser Filipic was credited with the assist. Les Borsheim ended the scoring at 16:01 with a goal from Brett Thurston to give the Eagles a 6-4 win. The Eagles out shot the Hounds 35-34 for the game. Sebastien Laplante made 30 saves in the win while Andy Franck made 29 saves in a losing effort for the SteelHounds.
