Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday the acquisition of Argentine central defender Victor Cabrera, on loan from River Plate for the 2015 season. As per MLS policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Cabrera, 21, was a member of the renowned first division club from Argentina, River Plate, during his first two seasons as a professional (winter championship 2013/2014 and fall championship 2014/2015).
"He comes from one of the two most prestigious clubs in Argentina, where a lot of good players are developed through their Academy," said Impact head coach and director of player personnel Frank Klopas. "We're adding depth to our defence with a strong and fast defender that we were able to see play in Argentina. He did not get enough playing time with the first team as he was behind high-profile players but he will now have the opportunity to continue to progress in Montreal."
Developed by River Plate's Academy, Cabrera has mainly evolved as starter with the reserve team in 2014/2015, starting 13 games and totaling more than 1,000 minutes played, helping River Plate finish as the top team in the standings.
