ArenaCup Single Game Rushing Leader Joins Dorados

HIDALGO, TX: July 28, 2005 ¨C The Rio Grande Valley Dorados made a roster move in preparation for their Saturday night tilt with the Bakersfield Blitz by receiving fullback/linebacker Dedric Maffett, who was assigned to the squad from the af2.

Maffett (m¨£-fit) is a 6'1" 245-pound native of Chattanooga, Tennessee with four seasons of af2 experience. He played the past two seasons in Huntsville, Alabama with the Tennessee Valley Vipers under Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. In 25 games with the Vipers, spanning the two seasons, he had 23 tackles on defense (18 solo) with 3.5 sacks and three tackles for a loss. On the offensive side with the Vipers, he had 32 carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns, and 13 receptions for 105 yards and a score. The 28 year-old product of Austin Peay University turned pro in 2001 with the Columbus Wardogs and appeared in three games before being traded to the Florida Firecats. He played in 10 games with the Firecats as a rookie and then continued with the ¡®Cats in 2003 and helped lead them to the ArenaCup Championship Game, which they lost to Peoria. Maffett registered an af2 ArenaCup single game record with 26 yards rushing in the contest and also tallied a touchdown. The success in 2002 caught the eye of Coach Guy and Maffett ended up in Tennessee Valley the following season. In his af2 career, Maffett has appeared in 43 games and has registered 74 tackles on defense (52 solo), including 10.5 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, one interception, 13 quarterback hurries, and three forced fumbles. Offensively, Maffett has combined for 287 career rushing yards off 99 attempts and has found the endzone ten times, and has 166 receiving yards off 21 receptions and two touchdowns.

The Dorados will have to make a roster move to fit Maffett into the active roster for Saturday¡¯s game. Any additional information regarding Maffett or the Dorados contest on Saturday against Bakersfield can be made by contacting Chris Due at 956-843-5656.

Rio Grande Valley returns to action this Saturday night, as they close out the regular season by hosting the Bakersfield Blitz at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena.
