Memphis Xplorers News Release
Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will square off with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings this Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Memphis (12-3) and Bossier-Shreveport (3-12) have already met in the first week of the season down in Louisiana. The Xplorers jumped all over the Battle Wings in that meeting, walking out of the CenturyTel Center with a 63-24 victory.
In that game, the Xplorers were led by quarterback Brian Jones, who was voted the Offensive MVP with 271 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Defensively, Khreem Smith led the way for Memphis with three sacks, including one for a safety. The US Army Ironman of the Game was Terrance Quattlebaum who had four receptions, and two touchdowns.
With the playoff participants already set for the 2005 season, the Xplorers are looking to capture home-field advantage in the National Conference Championship game. Memphis currently has a one-game lead on the Tulsa Talons, however if the teams end the season with identical records, the tiebreaker would go to the Talons, giving them home-field advantage.
The Battle Wings have struggled to get into the win column all season long, however they do have impressive wins over three teams already locked in for postseason action. Bossier-Shreveport defeated Rio Grande Valley, Oklahoma City, and the defending ArenaCup Champion Florida Firecats.
"As a team we cannot overlook this game or this team," said Memphis Head Coach Danton Barto. "They have wins over good teams in this league, and have shown the league that they are capable of beating anybody."
The Xplorers are 2005 Mid West Division Champions. Game time Saturday is scheduled for 7:00pm. Single game tickets are on sale now for as low as $7, and can be purchased by calling 662-342-1755, visiting the DeSoto Civic Center box office, or by logging onto www.TicketMaster.com today!
