December 15, 2009 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Spokane Shock News Release
Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that they will be holding two open tryouts for prospective players. The first tryout will be held in Los Angeles at Occidental College, 1600 Campus Road, at Patterson Field on January 16th. The second tryout will be held in Atlanta at Georgia State University, 2401 Wildcat Road, at the Georgia State Soccer Complex (Panthersville) on February 27th. Registration for both tryouts will begin at 8 AM.
These will be the first tryouts the Shock have held outside the state of Washington since the team's inception in 2006.
"My job is to find the best players to help us win games, no matter where they are," Head Coach Rob Keefe said. "In order to field a championship team, you need to turn over every stone, find the diamonds in the rough, and make sure that you are putting the best players in the arena."
The cost of the try-out is $50 for those who pre-register, and $65 at the door. Registration forms are available at www.spokaneshock.com.
The playing surface at Occidental College is field turf; the field at Georgia State is natural grass. Players will be asked to dress appropriately with athletic shoes, shorts and a t-shirt.
The format of the tryout will be a pro-style combine. Players will run through the following drills: 1) vertical jump, 2) shuttle run, 3) 40-yard dash, and 4) broad jump. Immediately following these tests players will begin position-specific drills, followed by one-on-one drills.
Backgrounder: The 2010 season will mark the Shock's first season in the new premier brand of Arena Football as a member of the Arena Football One League. Previously, the Shock were a member of the arenafootball2 league and quickly became one of the winningest franchises in league history, capturing two ArenaCup Championships with a 68-10 overall record since the team's inception in 2006.
