Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announce that four players have been signed to their training camp roster, set to begin in less than two weeks. Forward Neilsson Arcibal will begin his second season with the Snakes while the team has also signed second-year pro forward Ryan Patsch; rookie forward Chris Duszynski; and rookie forward and Georgia native Nick Curry.
Arcibal will begin his second full professional season with the Cottonmouths later this month. He joined the Snakes after starting the season in St. Charles of the Central Hockey League, picking up a goal in four games. With Columbus, Arcibal finished third on the team in scoring with 34 points (16G, 18A) despite playing in just 39 games. He was far and away the team leader in plus-minus, finishing with a +15 rating. The 26-year old California native actually started his pro career in 2011-12, playing the last eight games of the regular season and three playoff games for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, scoring one regular-season goal. Arcibal played four seasons collegiately at American International College in Massachusetts, where he scored 83 points (27G, 56A) in a combined 135 games and served as captain his senior year.
Ryan Patsch, 23, comes to the Cottonmouths after starting his pro career last season with the Federal Hockey League's Danbury Whalers. Patsch played one season of major junior hockey in Quebec, appearing in three games for Victoriaville and four games for Baie-Comeau in the QMJHL in 2009-10. That same season, he also played in 23 games with Collingwood in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, picking up eight goals and four assists. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward returned to his native Philadelphia to play for the Junior Flyers for two seasons prior to turning pro with Danbury. Patsch scored 61 points (31G, 30A) in 56 games for the Whalers last season, good for third-most on the team and 10th in the FHL; his nine power play goals, however, were tied for second-best in the league and by far tops on the Danbury roster.
Duszynski, 25, will begin his rookie season in Columbus after getting a taste of the pros at the end of last season, scoring a goal in four postseason games for the CHL's Brampton Beast. He led Norwich University last season with 18 goals and was third with 27 points on the season. He finished his collegiate career at Norwich with a combined 42 goals and 44 assists in 113 games. Prior to playing collegiately, the 6'0, 190-pounder played in his hometown of Okotoks, Alberta for the Junior A Oilers of the AJHL, finishing as the Oilers' all-time leading scorer.
Nick Curry returns to his home state to start his collegiate career, having grown up on the opposite side of the Peach State in Augusta. The 6'0", 195-pound forward played two seasons of college hockey at Sacred Heart, the same school that produced returning Snakes forward Matt Gingera and defenseman Chris Bailer. Curry, 25, scored three goals and 11 assists in 34 games with Sacred Heart in 2012-13 prior to appearing in two games with the team last season. Prior to playing with Sacred Heart, Curry played one season with UMass-Lowell in 2010-11, logging a pair of assists in 16 games.
The Cottonmouths will begin their 11th season as an original member of the SPHL on October 24 with their season opener at home against the Knoxville Ice Bears. Season tickets, group sales, and sponsorship opportunities are available now for the upcoming season.
