Everett AquaSox News Release
EUGENE, OR: Five different Everett AquaSox (34-37) pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts as the Sox jumped ahead early and held on for the victory over the Eugene Emeralds (42-27), 4-3.
Alberto Rodriguez put the AquaSox on the board in the first inning with his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the right field fence that scored Andy Thomas to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. Thomas would extend the lead to 3-0 in the third inning with an RBI single up the middle that drove in Noelvi Marte.
The Emeralds scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning when Casey Schmitt walked with the bases loaded, scoring Najee Gaskins.
Neither team was able to score in innings four through six as the AquaSox lead remanded at 3-1 until the seventh inning when both teams added a run. Cole Barr's solo home run over the right field fence made it a 4-1 game and then Luis Matos responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to cut the Sox lead to 4-2.
Jairo Pomares brought the Emeralds to within one run of the Sox with a solo home run in the eighth inning however they wouldn't be able to get any closer. Everett pitcher Isaiah Campbell entered the game and picked up his sixth straight save with a perfect ninth inning to finish off the AquaSox victory.
Pitchers Prelander Berroa (9), Peyton Alford (5), Evan Johnson (2), Leon Hunter Jr. (1) and Campbell (2) combined for 19 strikeouts, one short of the organization's all-time record of 20, set back in 1996.
