Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
Winston-Salem, NC â Chad Collins made 31 saves for his third win of the season to give the Fayetteville FireAntz a 3-1 victory over the Winston-Salem Polar Twins Sunday night at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Annex. Graham Dearle had the only goal for the Polar Twins who drop to 2-3 on the season.
Both teams had sustained pressure in the first period but neither team could find the back of the net. It was the FireAntz who got on the board first, as Brent Rumble tallied Fayetteville's first power play goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. R. J. Roy fed a centering pass to Rumble, who one-timed a shot past Winston-Salem netminder Nathan Grobins for his first goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Winston-Salem tied it 1-1 early in the third on a two-man advantage. Rhett Dudley's initial shot from the point was blocked by Collins but the rebound squirted out to Dearle at the right wing post. Dearle chipped the puck over a sprawling Collins for his second goal in as many games. Marcus Willy extended his point streak to five games with an assist on the play, giving him a total of nine points on the season and a tie for league-lead in scoring with teammate Chad Brandimore.
Fayetteville regained the lead just over five minutes into the third period as Dean Jackson recovered a rebound a the right wing post, batting it past Grobins for a 2-1 FireAntz lead. Steve Roberts put the game out of reach for the Polar Twins, converting on an odd-man rush after a failed keep-in attempt in the Fayetteville zone. Grobins made the initial save but the FireAntz kept with it, knocking in the rebound to make it 3-1. Fayetteville would hold on to the lead, handing Winston-Salem it's third loss of the season.
The Polar Twins take to the road following tonight's game, with stops in Huntsville (Friday) and Columbus (Saturday) next weekend. Fans can keep up-to-date with the Polar Twins as they make their longest road stand of the season by logging on to Pointstreak.com and clicking on the SPHL link.
