Tucson defeated Oklahoma 9-7 behind C Craig Ansman's 5th inning grand slam to right field. Reliever Brady Raggio (2-2) picked up the win for Tucson as he threw 2 innings, allowing an earned run and striking out 2. RHP Rosman Garcia (1-4) took the loss for the RedHawks in relief of starter Nick Regilio.
Ansman's grand slam, an opposite field shot, was his third homer of the year and gave the Sidewinders a lead that they would not relinquish. Craig finished his night 2-3, with a run, 4 RBIs, and a walk. 2B Andy Green had a solid night as well, with 2 doubles and a run. He would add on another single and finish 3-4. LF Scott Hairston, making his first start in left field, also had 3 hits.
For Oklahoma, CF Gary Matthews Jr. hit his 7th home run of the year with a solo shot in the 3rd. He went 2-4 with a run and 2 RBIs. C Ken Huckaby drove in 2 runs, and helped his team defensively by throwing out 2 Tucson runners at second base, effectively stunting a couple of Sidewinder scoring chances.
The win pushed the Sidewinders to 7 games above .500 at 21-14. They remain in first place in the South. Meanwhile, the loss dropped the RedHawks to 19-16. Tucson took the series 3 games to 1 against Oklahoma. 5,678 people attended and the game was complete in 2:45.
Tomorrow's probables for game Famous Chicken Night, and game 1 of Tucson's series against New Orleans feature RHP Taylor Buchholz (0-5, 7.92) facing Tucson righty Phil Stockman (2-1, 4.11). Game time is 6:30 PM.
